A long-term project
Launched in 2024 as part of an industrial partnership, the Kankan Solar Wells programme is now the most ambitious project ever supported by the Demain Endowment Fund: an investment of €190,000 to drill 13 solar-powered boreholes and build six water towers.
Clean drinking water, everywhere, all the time
Thanks to the solar panels’ energy self-sufficiency, the pumps continue to operate even during power cuts. Villagers no longer have to walk for kilometres to fetch water.
“Before, the women spent their mornings carrying water containers. Now, they can send their daughters to school.” — Testimony from a village chief
What next?
Maintaining the installations is now the top priority. The fund continues to support local partner organisations in training Guinean technicians to maintain the panels and pumps.
